CT Enterography Sydney
CT Enterography is a contrast-enhanced CT scan of the bowel tissues in your abdomen using contrast to evaluate small intestine disorders. This specialised CT allows for our doctors view the soft tissues of your bowel and identify any abnormalities in or around them. One common use of this scan is used to evaluate thyroid nodules.
CT Enterography requires oral intake of a sorbitol solution, this is solution which we prepare for you and it is drunk slowly over an hour prior to your scan. It fills into your lower bowel allowing for better characterisation of the small intestine. This is in addition to an intravenous injection of contrast dye. This is a non-radioactive fluid injected into your arm through intravenous (IV) cannulation. This dye can cause an allergic reaction in some patients, this is extremely rare. How to prepare for a CT Enterography
Preparations for CT scans vary depending on the procedure. Our friendly reception staff will inform you of any preparation requirements at the time of booking.
Preparation for CT Enterography: Fast for 6 hours prior to your scan. You must arrive 1 hour prior to your booking for us to prepare the sorbitol solution and for you to consume it. Please contact our reception team for all enterography bookings.
Appointment length: 30 minutes (+ 60 minutes prep time)

Does CT have any radiation risks?
CT scans use ionising radiation, and we utilise the latest technology to minimise the amount of radiation (ultra-low dose CT scanners).

Please note: Only medical doctors (GPs, specialists etc) can refer for CT scans.
We are not able to provide estimates of radiation as each dosage is specific per patient and many factors influence the actual dosage.
